David Louf aka mr.June
From a Bboy-breakdancer in the ninetees mr.June (David Louf) started graffiti in 1985 in the south of the Netherlands.
After working as a graphic designer for fifteen years, Louf decided that to be able to truly excel at his work he needed to focus all his creative energy into one project.
His sense of design, art, graffiti and muralismwhere all combined into a single artistic endeavor, hinging upon his canvases and murals working in tandem. It lead him on a quest for the perfect form, which he found in the hexagon.
Employing perspective in a painting, this shape can also become the imagined outline of a cube tilted to the side. Since he formed this idea, Louf has made it the subject of every single one of the unbroken sequence of ‘cube’ canvases he has been painting ever since.
My mural work is based on the dynamics between me and the specific site.
As a result I present the viewer an alternativ experience of the environment, which has been optically manipulated by form, colors and perspectives.
I always respond to the wall and the surroundings in order to create a unique cohesive with the environment, the painting and the viewer. This gives him the ultimate creative freedom to ultimately enjoy the process
I don't want to explain my artwork. I want to leave room for interpretation. This because i allow viewers to interpret it in their own way and form their own opinions about it.
This can lead to a more open-ended and diverse range of responses, as each person brings their own unique perspective and experiences to the work.I prefer to let the artwork speak for itself. i think that that explaining it in words can detract from the overall impact of the piece.
Always on a quest for the perfect shape. Realizing that his desire to invent a new basic shape was probably not a feasible one, he settled for the closest possible thing: creating the perfect rendition of a perfect shape. Studying the golden ratio and Fibonacci sequences, he then grew fascinated with the hexagon and its prevalence as a building block of both nature and architecture. It has been the source of a seemingly endless form study ever since.
Working with 2 diagonals from the hexagon and playing with illusions of dept using color shades creates a sense of movement and energy, while using color shading can create a sense of depth and dimensionality. Exploring the relationship between geometry and nature, is a way to create balance, harmony, and beauty in my artwork.
